Standard Bike

HALF DAY £20FULL DAY £25

A standard bike is perfect those wanting a beautiful ride to see the scenery and explore the many gravel track trails that Grizedale has to offer.  These bikes are perfect for the family to explore but be warned the forest is very hilly!

Standard Bikes are front suspension mountain bikes from a range of brands such as Scott, Specialized and Saracen. They have a good range of gears and disk brakes. These bikes must only be used on the gravel tracks throughout the forest. The gravel tracks offer many miles of trails around both sides of the beautiful Grizedale Forest, with many uphill’s and exciting downhills, it is a challenge with some wonderful views to make all the effort worthwhile.

Please note:

All under 18 year old’s must be accompanied by a riding adult at all times.

Standard bikes are not suitable for going onto the North Face Trail or Bridleways; if you wish to explore some of these more technical riding please look at the Premium hire bikes.

Premium Bike

HALF DAY £25               FULL DAY £35

A Premium Bike is the bike to choose to explore most of the trails that Grizedale has to offer, and is a minimum requirement if you wish to explore the North Face Trail or Bridleways.

These bikes are front suspension mountain bikes, with Air Sprung Rock Shox forks and Hydraulic Disk Brakes.  We have a range of Specialized, Genesis and Scott bikes available.  We also have a mixture of 27.5 inch wheels and 29 inch wheels.  If you have a preference please call the shop and we will en-devour to save you your preferred bike.

The North Face Trail is our technical single track trail through the forest.  This trail is designed for more confident riders as it is a narrow trail with rock steps, board walks, berms and other obstacles.  If you wish to have a go at this trail, but are not sure pop into the shop and we will be happy to show you some of the easier sections to have a play on.  If you are an experienced rider or have done the North Face trail before, then we recommend exploring the bridleways which are the natural single track through the forest.  Pop into the shop for more details, or visit our trail page for more information.

Please note:

All under 18 year old’s must be accompanied by a riding adult at all times.

Electric Bikes

HALF DAY £35               FULL DAY £45

The electric bikes are a fun way to explore the forest on the gravel track trails.  With a motor that assists you when you pedal, they make ascending the hills a lot easier.  They make the uphills feel more like flat, and makes the forest accessible for lots more people.  Whether you want to explore more of the forest as you will still have the energy after the uphills, or wish to keep up with the family.  And you still get a workout if you want, as each bike allows you to change the amount of assistance the bike offers you, making it easier or harder whenever you want!

We highly recommend hiring an electric bike if you plan to tow a children’s trailer, as it makes the experience more enjoyable.

Please note:

Unfortunately you must be at least 14 years old to hire an electric bike – please visit the government website for more details (https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules).

Children’s Bikes

HALF DAY £12               FULL DAY £20

For all the adventurous children out there we offer either a 20″ wheel bike or a 24″ wheel bike.

Our children’s bikes are a mixture of Saracen and Adventure.  Most of the children’s bikes have front suspension, v-brakes and all have at least 7 gears.  When you arrive with us at the center, we will make sure that we fit your child to the bike that fits them the best, and that they are confident riding it.  (If these are not the correct size for your children then you will either require a tag-a-long or an adults XS bike.)  We will go through how to use the brakes and the gears, and allow them to test the bikes before they take them onto the trail.

Most families enjoy riding on the off-road gravel tracks around the forest, but please be ready to walk with your youngsters up some of the hills!

Please note:

All under 18 year old’s must be accompanied by a riding adult at all times.

Tag-a-long and Trailers

HALF DAY FROM £5          FULL DAY FROM £10

Tag-a-longs and Trailers are £5 for half a day, or £10 for a full day when there is an adult hiring another bike.

The price to hire with your own bike is £10 for half a day and £15 for the full day.

If you wish to ride your own bike with a tag-a-long then it must be a hard-tail.  If you wish to hire a trailer for your own bike it must be a hard-tail with disk brakes.

What is a tag-a-long?

If your child is too small for a 20″ wheel children’s bike, or needs a little bit of help up the hills, then the tag-a-longs are the choice for you.  These bikes attach to the back of an adults bike, so that you and your child can ride in tandem around the forest.  Tag-a-longs are specially fitted to each child so they are the perfect fit.  Unfortunately not all children will fit on a tag-a-long and might need a bike of their own if they are too large, or if they are still a little bit small they can sit in one of our child trailers.

What is a trailer?

A trailer is for children older than 1 years old, who are too small for a tag-a-long, or who are still not happy using pedals.  The trailer is a double seat (2 child) “chariot” that is towed behind an adults bike.  It has a full roll cage, cover and seat belts to keep your little ones safe.  Due to the weight of the trailers when a child is inside, we highly recommend hiring an electric bike to tow the trailers.
