A map and a helmet are included with every hire.

Electric Bikes

HALF DAY £40              FULL DAY £50

The electric bikes are a fun way to explore the forest on the gravel track trails.  With a motor that assists you when you pedal, they make ascending the hills a lot easier.  They make the uphills feel more like flat, and makes the forest accessible for lots more people.  Whether you want to explore more of the forest as you will still have the energy after the uphills, or wish to keep up with the family.  And you still get a workout if you want, as each bike allows you to change the amount of assistance the bike offers you, making it easier or harder whenever you want!

We highly recommend hiring an electric bike if you plan to tow a children’s trailer, as it makes the experience more enjoyable.

Please note:

Unfortunately you must be at least 14 years old to hire an electric bike – please visit the government website for more details (https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules).

All under 18 year old’s must be accompanied by a riding adult at all times.

Gravel Bikes

HALF DAY £25               FULL DAY £35

Gravel bikes are a fairly new concept, and as we became more “gravel-curious” we realised that we didn’t know where to go to try out this new discipline.  This meant that other people must be in the same boat.  So we have introduced some Gravel/Adventure bikes into our hire fleet, so everyone can have a try at this exciting new area of riding.

Gravel bikes are descended from touring bikes, endurance bikes and cyclo-cross bikes.  ” Gravel” or “Adventure” bikes are the do-it-all bike, for the rider who wants to ride a mix of roads, dirt forest tracks and bridleways.

Gravel bikes have disk brakes and are traditionally ridden with drop handlebars like a road bike, but with wider tyres – typically ranging from 35c size up to a 29×2.1 mountain bike style tyres.

Grizedale Forest is probably one of the best places in the Lake District to sample this kind of riding as we have an extensive gravel track network and plenty of options to test your skills on local bridleways.

Fell free to call us at the shop to help decide which is the best bike for you, or you can book directly online.

All under 18 year old’s must be accompanied by a riding adult at all times.

Full Suspension Electric

PER BATTERY £60

Our full suspension electric bikes are designed to go anywhere in the forest.

All the bikes are Specialized Levo’s or Kenevo’s, and are designed for the rigors of the single track.  With at least 140mm travel front and back, 650B+ tyres for better grip, and a frame built to win races, these are the ultimate in bike.

These bikes are perfect to all those wanting a bit of a boost whist out on the trail.  Don’t need a boost, that’s cool to, these bikes will mean you can travel further in a day, meaning more of the good stuff (the downhills), and less energy wasted getting to the different trail section.  A must try for all mountain bikes!  Don’t judge them till you try one!

Please note:

The price is per battery, and gives you the ability to be out in the forest for up to a full day at a time, you just need to be sensible with your power settings (you are welcome to charge your bike with us whilst you head for lunch – to give it a little boost!).

Unfortunately you must be at least 14 years old to hire an electric bike – please visit the government website for more details (https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules).

All under 18 year old’s must be accompanied by a riding adult at all times.

Full Suspension Bike

HALF DAY £40               FULL DAY £50

With a full suspension bike, you can explore all the trails the forest has to offer.  With front and rear suspension, which we set up specifically for you before you set off, they make travelling over Grizedale’s rocky tracks much easier and more comfortable.

We have a mixture of different bikes, from Scott, Specialized and Mondraker.  We also have a range of wheel sizes including 27.5 inch, 650B+ and 29 inch wheels.  We cannot guarantee which of these bikes you will get, however if you do have a specific preference, please give us a call on 01229 860335 and we will happily discuss your preferences, and book that in for you.

Are you looking to buy a full suspension bike?  If so we also have a range of Specialized StumpJumpers (29er’s and 650B) to Demo, please call us for more info and to book.

Please note:

All under 18 year old’s must be accompanied by a riding adult at all times.

Children’s Bikes

HALF DAY £15          FULL DAY £20

For all the adventurous children out there we offer either a 20″ wheel bike or a 24″ wheel bike.

Our children’s bikes are a mixture of Saracen and Adventure.  Most of the children’s bikes have front suspension, v-brakes and all have at least 7 gears.  When you arrive with us at the center, we will make sure that we fit your child to the bike that fits them the best, and that they are confident riding it.  (If these are not the correct size for your children then you will either require a tag-a-long or an adults XS bike.)  We will go through how to use the brakes and the gears, and allow them to test the bikes before they take them onto the trail.

Most families enjoy riding on the off-road gravel tracks around the forest, but please be ready to walk with your youngsters up some of the hills!

Please note:

All under 18 year old’s must be accompanied by a riding adult at all times.

Tag-a-long and Trailers

HALF DAY FROM £5          FULL DAY FROM £10

Tag-a-longs and Trailers are £5 for half a day, or £10 for a full day when there is an adult hiring another bike.

The price to hire with your own bike is £10 for half a day and £15 for the full day.

If you wish to ride your own bike with a tag-a-long then it must be a hard-tail.  If you wish to hire a trailer for your own bike it must be a hard-tail with disk brakes.

What is a tag-a-long?

If your child is too small for a 20″ wheel children’s bike, or needs a little bit of help up the hills, then the tag-a-longs are the choice for you.  These bikes attach to the back of an adults bike, so that you and your child can ride in tandem around the forest.  Tag-a-longs are specially fitted to each child so they are the perfect fit.  Unfortunately not all children will fit on a tag-a-long and might need a bike of their own if they are too large, or if they are still a little bit small they can sit in one of our child trailers.

What is a trailer?

A trailer is for children older than 1 years old, who are too small for a tag-a-long, or who are still not happy using pedals.  The trailer is a double seat (2 child) “chariot” that is towed behind an adults bike.  It has a full roll cage, cover and seat belts to keep your little ones safe.  Due to the weight of the trailers when a child is inside, we highly recommend hiring an electric bike to tow the trailers.
